They say the traditional pub is dead. With more and more public houses closing every month in Manchester, you have to make the most of them while you can.
So when we heard The Lost Dene, the traditional British pub on Deansgate, is going to reopen following a £300,000 renovation, we were buzzing.
It will re-launch on is to reopen on Friday 10 February and Lord Mayor of Manchester Carl Austin-Behan will be in attendance as a town crier proclaims the opening to office workers and shoppers.
Customers will experience the pub’s own independent style, from heart-warming pies to home cooked roasts, craft beers to gin cocktails, sports viewing facilities, local musicians, and the warmest Manchester hospitality money can’t buy.
The Lost Dene is owned and operated by Stonegate Pub Company which is the largest privately held managed pub operator in the UK, with revenues in excess of £625 million, employing circa 14,000 people.
So with six nations on one side, gin sippers on the other, craft lovers and British food enthusiasts galore, what else can be expected from the investment, which has also created seven new jobs?
“We’ve created that warm atmosphere, tourists and Mancunians want to experience and remember,” says manager, Julie Joyce.
It’s promising to be a great place to watch sport and with eight HD TVs, big screens, three bookable VIP booths complete with their own screen and the facility to air three different channels across Sky and BT Sport, it will ideal for European sports followers, boxing fans, and NFL enthusiasts.
The pub has joined the craft beer revolution whilst cask marque accredited, the range of real ales has gone local including award winning George Wright brews and the ‘Best of British’ Lancaster Bomber with CAMRA members enjoying 10% discount. Popular cocktails and premium gins infused behind the bar with cucumber, raspberry, basil and seasonal flavours compliment the range.
An extensive menu starts with breakfast, whilst British value oozes from the many reasons to visit including two meals for £9.99 all day every day, burgers, pies, dish and drink combos and what is billed as the best home cooked Sunday roast in town.
Champions league, boxing, football, NFL and racing air throughout the week. Thursday quiz nights have embraced smartphone technology so there is no such thing as cheating. Friday and Saturday sees DJ classics party weekend until 1am whilst Sunday acoustic sessions celebrate the best of local musicians.
“We all love the diversity of Manchester – in essence that has helped to attract so many visitors. We also have opportunity to preserve our great Britishness and that is the role we fill here at the Lost Dene,” added Julie.
The pub has great events planned for the future too, embracing Manchester’s great love for St Patricks day with a full week of celebrations.
