Sneak peek as iconic Salford pub reopens doors after “stunning” refurb

The iconic New Oxford Pub, standing tall since its establishment in 1822 on Bexley Square, has been closed for three weeks to have a remarkable rejuvenation, harking back to its Victorian roots.

Manchester and Salford are full of great real ale pubs and historic boozers, and the New Oxford fits this category.

Now they’re back up and running (Friday, 16 February 2024), why not check it out and support a great local business?

Tim Flynn, a devoted 46-year-old with 17 years of service at The New Oxford, spearheads this ambitious project, aiming to restore the pub to a grand Victorian style, reminiscent of a traditional English boozer.

Posting to their Facebook Page, The New Oxford Pub said: “The hard work is all done and we are ready.”

The New Oxford closed its doors on Sunday, January 22nd for the biggest transformation of its 200-year history aiming to take the historic pub back to Victorian times.

With many pubs closing across Greater Manchester, the New Oxford is hoping to carve a niche as a ‘historic, old-fashioned’ but well-designed pub that will tap into British people’s love for traditional, old-school pubs.

The New Oxford Pub revival

The New Oxford, a fixture in the community, temporarily closed its doors on 22 January to undergo an extensive “full rip-out” transformation.

The pub has clearly been finished to an “extremely high level,” featuring furnishings typical of a 19th-century pub.

Expect old copper counters, traditional shutter blinds, and toilets with classic pull-down chains, providing patrons with a nostalgic journey through time.

The pub has had a full makeover, including the expansion of the back room, which will double in size.

They are hoping this means it will become a huge draw as a place to have meetings, and events and will make the pub a more versatile space.

The local community has been buzzing with excitement since Tim announced the pub’s transformation on Facebook.

The prospect of The New Oxford being “taken back in time” has received overwhelmingly positive feedback.
