Contemporary art installation on Spinningfields’ Lawns

Contemporary art installation to animate and enrich space at Spinningfields Estate’s first outdoor sculpture unveiled on The Lawns.

The redesign of Hardman Square’s public realm in Spinningfields, which saw the introduction of the award-winning Lawns last year, is continuing apace with the arrival of its first permanent contemporary piece of public sculpture.

Continuing Spinningfields’ renowned aptitude for highly engaging, larger than life concepts – an enormous wooden clothes peg will be rooted into the Lawns creating a flawless illusion of ‘pinching’ the grass of the well-loved summer destination. The inspiration behind the installation is to make passers-by stop, look and take a minute out of their busy lives to enjoy something that will amuse and intrigue.

Keen to use art and sculpture to animate the space and engage with the general public, Capital Properties commissioned local designers Custom Landscape Designs to create an installation that will take up temporary residency next to Carluccio’s.

The Lawns, which won the 2013 UK Event Awards Unusual Venue of the Year, proved a huge success when it launched last year, with thousands of people using the space throughout the year. Capital Properties want to continue to drive that success forward by utilising all available space and making it an inviting atmosphere that continues to evolve and impress.

With social media engrained into Spinningfields’ ethos, it is anticipated the sculpture will become a real talking point within Manchester, the North West and beyond.
