Local singer-songwriter James ‘Shinny’ Davenport is attempting to get to the top of the charts with a fun-filled single – and raise money for charity.
The single, optimistically called Christmas Number One, has big support locally from stars such as Shameless’ Jody Latham and Happy Mondays’ Bez who feature in the video.
James decided to release the track after six months of dedicated detox following an addiction lasting 25 years. A former professional Rugby League player and boxer, he is now hoping to inspire others through music and raising money for a cause close to many people’s hearts.
Lead singer and writer for Salford band Hanky Park, James believes Christmas Number One has what it takes to top the charts. The message behind it is love and gratitude, with the video following his character visiting the people he has upset in his life and making amends through his music.
It features appearances from former Coronation Street actress Saira Choudhry, model Maddie Morgan, actor Will Rush – and even his two children, daughter Gracie Lee, 6, and son Donovan, 12.
James recently shared the stage with Robbie Williams at the Key 103 Christmas Live event at the Manchester Arena – the same venue where he fought his last fight a boxer.
The single, which is officially released on Friday 16 December, is available to preorder online now. 20p from the sale of each single will go direct to Macmillan Cancer Support.
