You can’t go anywhere these days without stumbling across an advert telling you to spend money on running gear. £100 trainers, the latest sweat-resistant clothing, special sports drinks. The list goes on.

Keeping fit is becoming more trouble than it’s worth. But if you really want to stay in shape, there’s really only one thing you need – your dog.

Most dog owners will tell you that there’s nothing more fun than taking your furry friend out for a walk. Regardless of the weather or time of day, if your dog demands it then you can pretty much guarantee you’ll muster up the energy to get off the couch and take on the great outdoors.

If you’re lucky enough to own a dog, you can now take part in which comes to Heaton Park next month.

The 5k Dog Jog is a unique event for you and your dog to get fit and have fun.

People of all ages and their dogs can take part in the jog which will feature such sights as an 18 hole golf course, a boating lake, an animal farm, woodlands, ornamental gardens, two playgrounds and a lakeside tea room for good measure.

And, of course, there are plenty of trees just in case your dog gets caught short.

The event offers a relaxed and fun atmosphere with no times and no pressure. Everyone who enters will receive a Doggy Bag jam-packed with goodies for both you and your dog, including a special Dog Jog Collar key ring medal.

You and your furry friend should arrive at the park at least 15 minutes before the start to take part in the Dog Jog warm-up, so that you’re both fit and ready to get started.

Although the event is not timed, it’s always good to get yourself warmed up and loosen those muscles so that you’re ready for the big day.

Guests who turn up on the day are invited to bring signage and cheer on their favourite competitors, while marshals along the route will be there to make sure no one goes the wrong way.

Once you’re done and arrive at the finish line, you will be then greeted by a friendly MC who will give you and your running buddy some water, an event goody bag and your very own medal as a special treat.

Hanging out with your best dog pal is never a chore, so if you do fancy it get ready to enjoy a fantastic experience with your favourite four-legged friend.

So whether you’re a fitness buff or just can’t get enough of your four-legged friend, you now have the perfect excuse to go outside, get some fresh air and become part of a fun fitness movement.

Don’t forget to bring your camera or phone along with you as you will want to make sure you cherish your achievement for years to come.

Sunday 20th August, 2017 from 2pm. For more information visit dogjog.co.uk
