Wicked Witch of the West Elphaba Thropp has been spotted defying gravity on the roof of King Street Townhouse.
She could have been taking it easy in the infinity spa pool on the roof of the bijou baby grand hotel as she prepares for her busiest night of the year – Halloween.
But she was actually celebrating the return of West End and Broadway musical sensation Wicked to Manchester. Because the hit musical is flying home to the place where it all began for the festive season.
One of the most successful productions in the Palace Theatre’s history, Wicked was seen by almost 150,000 theatregoers when it premiered there back in 2013. The production subsequently travelled across the UK and Ireland twice as well as to China, the Philippines, Singapore and Switzerland.
Around the world, Wicked has been seen by almost 60 million people and won more than 100 major awards, including three Tony Awards on Broadway and two Olivier Awards in the UK. It is the 6th longest running Broadway show of all time and the 14th longest running West End show of all time.
The acclaimed cast of 31 features Amy Ross as Elphaba, Helen Woolf as Glinda, Aaron Sidwell (best known as Steven Beale in EastEnders) as Fiyero, Steven Pinder (best known as Max Farnham in Brookside) as The Wizard & Doctor Dillamond, Kim Ismay as Madame Morrible, Emily Shaw as Nessarose and Iddon Jones as Boq. Nikki Bentley is standby for Elphaba.
Based on the best-selling novel by Gregory Maguire that ingeniously re-imagines the stories and characters created by L. Frank Baum in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures in Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.
The five-week engagement at The Palace Theatre will mark the end of a multi record-breaking, critically acclaimed tour across five countries, having been seen by over two million theatregoers.
Wicked is at the Palace Theatre from 4th December 2018 to 5th January 2019. It is recommended for ages 7+. Children under 3 years of age will not be admitted.
