The 2019 edition of The Good Food Guide has just been published, and Adam Reid at The French has climbed four places from last year’s guide, now ranking as the 13th best restaurant in the UK. It’s also the highest ranked restaurant to not have a Michelin star.
While only one Manchester restaurant has earned a place in the top 50 UK restaurants, there are 33 restaurants across Greater Manchester included in the 2019 guide.
Restaurants in Manchester, Stockport, Oldham, Bury, Rochdale, Tameside and Trafford have made the cut.
Covering the best restaurants, pubs and cafés across the UK, the guide is completely rewritten and compiled from scratch each year. The results are based on feedback from readers as well as anonymous expert inspections.
There were 33 restaurants across Greater Manchester in last year’s guide, too – although they’re not the same 33 this year.
New additions for Manchester include 20 Stories in Spinningfields, which opened earlier this year, and Mary-Ellen McTague’s The Creameries in Chorlton.
Two restaurants in Didsbury have been added to the guide this year – Indique on Burton Road, and No. 4 Wine and Dine on Warburton Street.
Mi & Pho, a Vietnamese cafe in Northenden, and Bombay to Mumbai in Bramhall, have also joined the list.
But several restaurants which made last year’s guide have been dropped this year.
In Manchester, Rabbit in the Moon has been dropped from the 2019 guide, as have both Teacup Kitchen and Greens, Simon Rimmer’s vegetarian restaurant in Didsbury.
Salford had one entry in last year’s guide – Vero Moderno – but that has been dropped from the 2019 guide. There are now no Salford entries.
Stockport has also lost two entries – Aamchi Mumbai in Cheadle and Easy Fish Co in Heaton Moor. Provenance, in Westhoughton, has also been cut.
