This Manchester pub just went from zero to hero after a £480k refurb

Even though pubs across the UK are closing at a frightening rate, there are plenty that continue to thrive. Their success is not only down to the fact that they get the basics right but that they go above and beyond on attentiveness and food quality, and get the drinks spot on time and again.

The Fairway Inn in New Moston is one such pub. It has just reopened following a major and much-needed £480k refurbishment by Manchester brewer Joseph Holt.

A tired looking pub, formerly the Broadway, has been transformed into a new spacious and welcoming pub for the local community.

Pictures on the walls are a reminder that the pub stands on the site of what used to be Failsworth Golf Club, one of the oldest courses in Manchester, which lost nine of its holes to builders in 1927 and closed in 1972, when the land was purchased for a housing development.

The inside area has been opened up with the removal of a separate vault but it retains three distinct areas. An outdoor seating area has been created at the front of the pub.

The pub has been really transformed and it now has a great feeling about it. Think open fires, bare brick walls, cosy booth seats and an eclectic menu of hearty grub and stellar drinks.

It’s just a ten minute walk away from Broadhurst Park, home of FC United of Manchester, so it’s the perfect place to enjoy a pre-match pint or two or a post-match celebration. Or, the way things are going for The Rebels at the moment, to drown your sorrows after the match.

But you don’t have to be an FC United fan to enjoy The Fairway. This family-friendly community pub has a warm and welcoming atmosphere that can be enjoyed by everyone.

There’s a wide range of cask beers, award-winning lagers, specially selected wines, premium spirits and a brand new gin and rum bar that will leave even the most discerning drinker satisfied.

There’s a huge 75” TV screen so you’ll never miss the best live sports action on SKY and BT sport and a brand new outside dining terrace at the front of the pub.

And this formerly ‘wet’ pub now has a superb food menu that includes delicious new dishes  such as crispy chicken thighs stuffed with black pudding and chargrilled sirloin steak sliced over spicy Mediterranean vegetable ratatouille, part of the 500 calories or under range.

For those looking for some light bites, they’ve got you covered from sandwiches to salads and even freshly made pizzas from the new speciality pizza oven.

No meal would be complete without a tasty dessert so the pub has a lovely selection of traditional classics such as sticky toffee pudding, chocolate fudge cake to choose from as well as some new indulgent desserts such as home-made doughnuts with 3 melted chocolate dips and prosecco and lemon cheesecake.

If you’re an ice cream fan be sure to check out the ice-cream cabinet that is not only good to look at but tastes even better with some proper quirky mouth-watering flavours that are so good you might just be popping in for a swift Blackcurrant and Liquorice cornet.

The pub has some great new features such as a cosy fire-place and table booths which include their own personal TVs so you can watch in the comfort of your own booth with friends and family.

The Fairway Inn has probably had the best makeover since Susan Boyle. It ticks all the boxes with a great selection of drinks, good food, sports TV and a welcoming atmosphere. If you get a little carried away with your night out, the place even offers accommodation for you to stagger upstairs and sleep it all off. With drinks this good, it’s very possible.
