Owners Peter and Elaine Kinsella are both passionate about good quality food and drink and spend a lot of their time in Spain sourcing the best produce from small artisan producers.
But with over 1,000 products from Spain available, including some specialist local ones, you’ll probably be spoilt for choice. So to help you choose, here are our top 10 recommended products. Buon appetito!
Ibérico Jamón de Bellota
Produced by the Hiraldo family from their own pure bred Ibérico pigs on their own land, Lunya’s signature Ibérico Bellota Ham is cured for between three and four years in Extremadura. The pigs roam the dehesa feeding on acorns, mushrooms and herbs. In the last three months of their life, they feed pretty much entirely on the acorns from the woodland floor. This stunning ham from Huelva has a deep, savoury flavour with well marbled acorn rich fat, and a fabulous covering of oozing fat around the leg. It is sweet, savoury, nutty and utterly unctuous!
Torta De Barros
A tangy, creamy, complex cheese, made with pasteurised sheep’s milk and a thistle rennet from Extremadura. It is slightly sour with a flood of herb flavours and an elegant bitter aftertaste from its cardoon thistle rennet. It has a creamy, melting texture that coats the palate. Perfect for sharing and served with bread or picos de pan, you’ve got a ready made fondue on your plate.
Cabrales
The strongest blue cheese in the world. Governed by a D.O.P, it has a strong aroma, creamy texture and mouth burning flavour that sucks the moisture from the back of your tongue. Fabulously piquant, this is great on its own, with a fruit jelly or sweet dessert wine or sherry.
Fig and Almond Wheel
Figs soaked in moscatel wine, layered with Catalan almonds and anise, pressed into a wheel. A slice of this is the ideal accompaniment to goat’s cheese.
Gordal Olives
Perello giant Andalucian gordal olives, cured in a spicy brine with guindilla chillies. These are firm, fleshy, juicy and with a lovely gentle spicy kick. They also stuff their own with oranges. Just beautiful.
Infused Olive Oils
La Chinata flavoured oils with garlic, lemon, basil, mushroom or chilli, added to extra virgin olive oil with its numerous properties. They allow the oils to infuse for at least a month. In this way they create artisanal oils with an attractive aroma that gives an exclusive touch to any recipes.
Santo Domingo Pimenton
Finely ground smoked paprika from Santa Domingo produced to the D.O. De la Vera standards. Spicy or sweet.
Arroyabe Tuna
Stunning whole fillet of Cantabrian bonito tuna in olive oil. Bonito del norte is considered by Spaniards to be the finest of tunas. Arroyabe is a one of the very best artisan conservas (fish curing) companies from the Basque region, famed for its firm, flavourful tuna.
Cafe Saula
Fabulous 100% Arabica beans from Columbia, roasted in Barcelona, for a rich, smooth yet strong cup of coffee, with no hint of bitterness. Ground for cafetieres, home espresso machines and coffee makers. Winner of the 2013 Double Gold Great Taste Awards. It is one of the very best coffees in the world. Elaine and Peter think the best!
