Rob, who regularly performs at the Comedy Store in Manchester, is a keen half and full marathon runner, and has taken part in a number of events for Parkinson’s UK, raising almost £70,000 so far.
The 10k event on Sunday 22 May takes runners around the city of Manchester past the Lowry Centre, Old Trafford, Bridgewater Hall and Manchester Central.
“I love coming to Manchester, there is always a brilliant atmosphere at gigs,” says Rob. “And I love going for a run around the city, too.
“The Great Manchester Run is a fantastic opportunity to take in the sights Manchester has to offer and by signing up to run for Parkinson’s UK, you’ll be part of a team running towards a cure for Parkinson’s in 2016.
“My dad has been living with Parkinson’s for more than 15 years and is now not well enough to come to my gigs, but he still inspires me in everything I do, from comedy, running and quizzes, to raising awareness and funds for Parkinson’s UK.
Rob also has a training aid on offer for runners. He has teamed up with fellow comedian and Comedy Store regular Paul Tonkinson to launch Running Commentary, a podcast that takes fellow runners on the journey with them as they talk about running, life and comedy, all whilst clocking up the training miles.
Parkinson’s UK aims to raise £25,000 through the event that will help fund their vital work to find better treatments and ultimately a cure for the neurological condition, as well as supporting the 127,000 people who are currently living with Parkinson’s across the UK.
Everyone who signs up for the Great Manchester Run will receive fundraising support, a personalised breathable running top and the charity also hosts a post-race reception that all runners and their supporters are welcome at.
