12 cracking places to eat out in Manchester on Christmas Day


No need to panic buy a turkey or spend Christmas stressing in the kitchen – dine out with friends or family on the big day and relax. A number of restaurants will be open and ready to greet you with the warmest hospitality and fine food, with options for all the family.


Indulge yourself at one of Manchester’s finest modern British restaurants. The Christmas Day menu offers a choice of four festive starters, four mains and four desserts for £65 per head. For traditionalists there’s bronze turkey, glazed sprouts, mulled cranberry, parsnip puree salsify, sourdough bread sauce and smoked bacon. If you’ve had enough of turkey by Christmas Day, choose loin of venison and celeriac braised shoulder pudding, turbot or salt baked parsley root. Why settle for less? Make sure you leave room for a pud because the desserts here are definitely too good to miss.


Celebrate Christmas Day in the ABode Restaurant with a decadent five-course menu. You will be greeted on arrival with champagne and canapés, before settling down to enjoy a five course festive feast. San Carlo, King Street West

This elegant Italian restaurant serves Christmas dinner with flair, with sittings between 12pm and 3pm. Their award-winning hospitality is ready to welcome you in on Christmas Day, with three courses of Italian excellence, as well as champagne sorbet in between! Starters include special egg pasta with fresh lobster and thinly sliced beef fillet, whilst turkey with chestnut stuffing is just one of seven main course options. There is a beautiful baked aubergine dish with tomatoes and cheese which may be competing for the most satisfying vegetarian Christmas option in Manchester, and a selection of desserts are available, followed by coffee and petit fours. Prices are £69.50 for adults and half price for children.

Zouk Indian Restaurant

Fancy a banquet on the big day? Zouk is well-known for bringing Eastern hospitality and amazing flavours to Xmas dining in Manchester. They open on Christmas Day with a banquet for just £30, composed of six courses and available for lunch and dinner. Their Christmas tiffin is also back this year by popular demand – a box packed with their most popular dishes including a starter, 2 curries, rice, fresh naan and salad – available throughout December from 12 noon till 4pm each day.

Sam’s Chop House

Enjoy a traditional Christmas lunch at Sam’s Chophouse alongside LS Lowry – his statue is at the bar. You’ll feel like you are back in a Christmas Carol as this authentic Victorian pub and restaurant is serving proper Christmas lunch right in the city centre. The menu features a number of traditional favourites. £75 adults, £30 children, under 3’s free. An attractive option for all the family.

Beef and Pudding

This cosy restaurant known for its comfort food is open on Christmas Day for dinner with two sittings at 1pm and 4pm. Tuck into turkey and all the trimmings, including duck fat roast potatoes and a wider choice of meats. There is also a fish choice and an indulgent option for vegetarians, with a butternut squash wellington. The menu is three courses, and with starters including asparagus veloute and desserts such as chocolate mousse, all topped off with handcrafted mice pies, this the ultimate Xmas indulgence. £70 adults, £25 children.

City Café Restaurant at DoubleTree Hilton

Enjoy a hearty Christmas dinner in a stylish setting at City Café. It may go by the name of café but this is a quality restaurant with a comforting feel with Christmas Day dining priced at £55 for three courses. The menu includes indulgent chicken and cognac pate, soup or flaked smoked salmon salad. Apricot and herb stuffed turkey breast with all the trimmings is one of three main options. Dessert features your own individual Christmas pudding or perhaps you would prefer a chocolate orange ingot or cheesecake?

The River Restaurant at The Lowry Hotel

For a luxurious Christmas Day meal with views over the River Irwell, the Lowry Hotel’s restaurant is the ideal location. Enjoy a glass of champagne and canapes in The River Bar followed by a four-course meal with fine attention to detail. They are well known for their roast Goosnargh turkey with traditional vegetables, homemade sauces and many alternatives. The restaurant will be open for Christmas Day Lunch from 12.30pm till 5.30pm. £120 adults, £60 children under 12.

Don Giovanni

This city centre Italian restaurant is known for its bright colours and beautiful setting, close to St Peter’s Square. This year the Christmas menu has dishes created through collaboration with Michelin-starred chef Jean-Christophe Novelli!  Open on Christmas Day 12-5pm (last orders 3.30pm) 3 courses are £54.50. There is a big selection of starters, from soup to tasty Italian meatballs, whilst the main courses combine the best of Italian and English tradition. Choose from turkey, rib eye steak, Novelli-inspired lamb shanks and wild mushroom risotto as just some options. There is also a range of desserts to indulge in!


This stylish King Street restaurant has a renowned Christmas Day menu. Enjoy traditional favourites infused with an Italian Twist, with starters such as chicken liver parfait and fried crab arancini. There’s even a ‘middle course’ in the form of a festive mulled wine flavour sorbet followed by a tremendous take on turkey – served in ballotine form rolled with herbs. Prime beef fillet, baked goats cheese and fresh lemon sole are just some of the other main options. You can enjoy a trio of authentic Italian desserts – and this menu is available at two sittings, 1pm and 4pm, at £90 per person.


You don’t have to come into town for some great food on Christmas Day (or any other day for that matter) because George’s in Worsley has a mouth-watering, modern British menu and great selection of wine and cocktails, too. They’ve got late availability due to a couple of cancellations so if you like the sound of wild seabass fillet with crushed new potatoes, creamed leeks and butter sauce tagliatelle with crab, baby spinach and a port reduction or beef sirloin, Yorkshire pudding, duck fat roast potatoes and a red wine jus, or just the traditional turkey dinner with all the trimmings, you’d better be quick because it’s strictly first come, first served.


Tuck into an impressive 5 courses for £64.95 – the ultimate Christmas Day Feast at Brown’s traditional brasserie and restaurant. There are four starters to choose from including pork and pancetta terrine and a tart combing lobster thermidor and champagne! All main options, which include turkey, supreme of turbot and vegetarian wellington – are served with proper roasties and indulegent trimmings. Veggies and vegans are also invited to pick any other suitable dish from the main menu. This impressive effort is followed by desserts such as a ‘Trio of Chocolate’, then a cheeseboard for the table and a hot drink with mini mince pies!
