Home Sweet Home is always on the cards when it comes to a lunchtime treat as its American themed food is ideal for the growing demographic of foodies in the Northern Quarter.

“…designed to make you feel right at home.”

Along with the American theme comes American sizes. Our top tip for eating at Home Sweet Home is to always turn up hungry. Personally, I have never managed to finish a meal but this is definitely not a bad thing!

It’s no surprise that Home Sweet Home is designed to make you feel right at home. With purposely mismatched tables and chairs, it makes you feel as if you’re at the Christmas family dinner on the emergency stools, as Peter Kay would say – another comforting touch to help you feel relaxed.

Homesweethomenq Charlottes Cakes

Open from 9am, Home Sweet Home serves all three meals of the day. Breakfast is served until 3pm weekdays and 2pm at weekends. From the Full English to the extravagant “Frickin’ Amazing French Toast,” there will always be something to tickle your fancy.

Home Sweet Home’s trademark dish is the Cheeseburger Toastie, a combination of two of the nation’s favourite dishes. No wonder it catches people’s eyes.

The “Pulled Pork Pile-up” is another infamous dish. Sitting on a mound of sweet potato fries, their signature pulled pork is nicely accompanied by BBQ sauce for a mouth-watering teatime treat. It also gets our thumbs up but it’s not first date material.

A further staple on the menu comes in liquid form. Glorious milkshakes (£4) served tall, fresh and in some outrageous flavours including a nutella toasted marshmallow, breakfast shake and the Charlie Brown.

Homesweethomenq Special Hot Chocolate

Home Sweet Home also has an in-house baker, Charlotte, whose cakes are better than exceedingly good.. A trip to Home Sweet Home just for one of these is recommended. And if you don’t want to budge from the settee, you can request cakes from the baker herself via email [email protected] for special occasions or just a midweek treat. Now that’s what we call service!

The staff are polite, helpful and informative and if you have any dietary requirements they try their best to accommodate you without affecting the taste or aesthetics of the meal. (I can vouch for this as I am lactose-intolerant).

It comes to no surprise to us that Home Sweet Home has been nominated in the ‘Cheap Eats’ category at this year’s Manchester Food and Drink Festival – a nomination which is well-deserved in terms of the price, quality and sheer quantity of food you can get for well under £10.
