This new Manchester gym can help you burn up to 850 calories in just 45 minutes

KOR gym Northern Quarter

Gone are the days of paying premium rates for personal training sessions with long rest periods and lots of chit chat.

According to fitness trend predictions for 2019, expect shorter workouts and faster high-intensity interval training, as well as more boutique studios and an increased focus on mental health.

And the experts are predicting that 2019 is going to be the year of ‘real people’ getting into shape, anticipating a marked increase in people of all ages and sizes getting into exercising – as well as a marked increase in demand for group training sessions.

KOR Gym 3 Northern Quarter

Cue the arrival of KOR, a new gym in the Northern Quarter that happens to tick all of these boxes.

Founders Josh Yell and Tom Melody have a total of 20 years’ experience in the fitness industry. After 6 years spent working together for Hale Country Club as personal trainers, they decided to break out on their own.

KOR does away with all the things we dislike about the gym – banishing annual contracts, joining fees and stringent payment plans, and eliminating outdated class options and pricey personal training sessions.

Instead there is the option to book in and pay for classes via their app available in both the App Store and Google Play.

“Our system is one that is non-committal so don’t even think about a joining fee or monthly payment plan, simply credit your KOR App and get booking,” they told us.

What’s more, all of the gym’s workouts are designed for maximum efficiency. At just 45 minutes a pop, they guarantee you’ll be in and out within an hour, making it easy to squeeze in a workout before or after work or during a lunch break.

The luxurious new gym is kitted out with two state-of-the-art fitness studios, as well as an espresso bar and shake station. Both are available to pre-order in the app – ideal for when you need to get your pre or post-workout fix in a hurry.

For HIIT fanatics, KOR runs what they call resistance classes combining HIIT and strength training to create the ultimate workout helping you to burn up to 850 calories in just 45 minutes.

The set up here is truly unique with four stations kitted out with treadmills, dumbbells, kettlebells and an Aerodyne assault bike described by the guys as “the ultimate cardio killer”. Each day they run a different class and recommend you attend them all in order to ensure you are effectively targeting all your major muscle groups.

KOR is also home to Manchester’s first ICG indoor cycling group studio and its resistance studio classes come fully equipped with brand new IC7 bikes, ICG fitted screen displaying scenic views, and trained instructors that make sure each rider is given tailored resistance levels to suit their ability.

There’s also an ICG Coach by Colour intensity guide monitor which your instructor supervises throughout the class ensuring that you are always performing to your best as well as the option to track your progress yourself using the ICG App.

The future of exercise has arrived.
