Our pick of the quirkiest things to do in Manchester this Valentine’s Day

It’s that time of year again. The big V is nearly here and we know you’re probably running around flailing your arms in the air wondering what the heck to do with your loved one this Valentine’s day.

But fear not. We’ve compiled a list of our top things to do in Manchester to celebrate the romantic day. So now all you have to do is worry about ironing your best top and trying not to say something completely stupid on your date.

Victoria Baths Valentine’s Cinema

Curl up with the other half and watch some old school rom com classics as Victoria Baths is temporarily transformed into a candlelit cinema this February. A romantic film line-up, fantastic street food traders and entertainment for you and your loved one – what more do you need to celebrate the loved up holiday?

The Village Screen pop-up kicks off on Friday 15th February with a screening of arguably the most romantic story ever told – Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo and Juliet. And on Saturday 16th February prepare for a double dose as Disney’s animated classic The Little Mermaid will be projected onto the big screen followed by an evening show of hit 90’s romcom 10 Things I Hate About You starring the late, great Heath Ledger.

Ahead of each screening, there will be music and local street food to fall in love with, plus a pop-up bar serving valentines inspired cocktails, hot chocolates, prosecco and local beers.

Junkyard Golf

You’ve seen it in the movies. Boy takes girl to play mini-golf, girl can’t play mini-golf so boy stands behind girl and teaches her how to play mini golf. Well now you can recreate the romantic scene for yourselves.

Expect some sweet sweet cocktails, ballards blasting through the speakers and three mashed up courses to show off your puttin’ skills. They are even selling love specs – sunglasses that turn every light into a rainbow of hearts. All proceeds from 14th February going to Junkyard Golf’s charity partner Love Support Unite.

Bongo’s Bingo

Pic Jack Kirwin

Avoid all the over priced consumerism that Valentine’s day brings and head out for a romantic night of raving and misbehaving at Bongo Bingo’s ultimate bingo rave as it returns to Manchester this month.

They’re hosting a huge Valentine’s special on the day itself which will feature a loved-up theme to get guests well and truly in the mood – and is the perfect event for young lovers looking to do Valentine’s Day a little bit differently this year.

Crystal Maze

It’s time to find out who truly wears the pants in your relationship. Work your way around the four themed zones (Aztec, Medieval, Industrial and Futuristic) in an ultimate battle of the loved ones at the Crystal Maze.

Look out for limited-edition red crystals and pink fluffy handcuffs introduced for Valentine’s sessions which could result in extra treats and challenges.

This Valentine’s, The Crystal Maze is hosting its very own speed gaming sessions on Friday 15th February to help blossoming young love find its way around Manchester. They’ve also introduced a new character in the run-up to Valentine’s, The Crystal Cupid: god of desire, love, attraction – and freebies!

Axe Throwing Speed Dating

Hosting both a speed dating event for singletons and a Valentine’s Double Bullseye for couples, Whistle Punks Axe Throwing are inviting guests to go up against fellow thrill seekers to find out who is the ultimate axe throwing champion. Costing £35 per person for the speed dating event – and £60 per couple for the Double Bullseye night – you will get a 90-minute session – drinks and chocolate in with the price.

Mayfield Depot Valentine’s Movie Experience

A special 5-day movie event is coming to disused train station Mayfield Depot for the loved up holiday. The mini film fest will feature six of Hollywood’s biggest romantic blockbuster classics including Titanic, The Bodyguard, Pretty Woman and Dirty Dancing.

Be greeted by a live band playing a selection of love songs as you make your way through the romantic forest to the pop-up screen. Make full use of the bar along the way as well as treating your loved one to some of the many street food vendors including woodfired pizza, gourmet burgers and hot dogs.

A pay bar will be available as well as a tasty array of street food for sale including wood fired pizzas and Jamaican barbecue, along with gourmet burgers and hot dogs.

Treetop Adventure

Ideal for last minute plans – there’s no need to book your slot in advance – simply just turn up on the day. Escape the winter weather at Treetop Adventure Golf with your nearest and dearest. Forget the awkward silences over dinner and take your date to explore two 18 hole mini-golf courses.

Treat yourself to some tropical themed cocktails and local craft beers – and tuck into some quick and easy jungle grub with handmade pizzas from the Pizza Cabana. Don’t have a baby sitter? Not to worry – Treetop Adventure is for adults and kids, so couples can celebrate the romantic holiday with their children in tow.

Frog & Bucket Valentines Day Special

Love, laughter and a happily ever after. The Frog & Bucket has lined up some fantastic acts along with one of The Frog’s best comperes for a fun-filled night with a difference. Reserve a table, sit by candle light and belly laugh with your loved one all night long. It will certainly be a Valentine’s to remember.

Romantic Cinema at King Street Townhouse

Indulge in a romantic cinema screening on February 14th at King Street Townhouse.  The stunning 20 seater luxury screening room is fully equipped with state of the art audio,  visual systems and VIP booth seating. It’s as classy as a night at the movies will ever get in this unique hotel cellar space with two screenings of La La Land at 6pm and 8.30pm.

Guests are also invited to make the most of the cracking tasting menu at New York-inspired King Street Tavern.
