Massage as medicine? How holistic therapies can reduce your anger, anxiety and stress

Holistic healing is rapidly gaining popularity as we become more familiar with the idea that maintaining our health involves creating a balance of body, mind, spirit and emotions.

It aims to bring a natural balance to the body, considering the whole person and treating the body, mind, spirit, and emotion.

Many have found holistic treatments hugely helpful in helping them to stop smoking, lose weight, get over insomnia, relieve stress and restore their optimal health.

One Manchester woman saw the virtues of holistic healing to such an extent that she left her job with the NHS to pursue it full-time. This is her story.

For the past five years, Lola Utham worked in healthcare as a project manager for the NHS helping to research new therapies.

During this time, she discovered that one particularly effective therapy was massage,  noticing that over time that it reduced feelings of anger and frustration in her patients.

Despite enjoying a successful career as an NHS professional, Lola felt compelled by the special power of massage and aromatherapy and decided to leave her job with the NHS to pursue holistic therapy full-time.

After enrolling in a course to get her professional certification, Lola started practising holistic therapy and reflexology at 5-star spa hotels before moving over to her current King Street treatment room.

Offering a range of treatments encompassing everything from sports-led massages holistic therapies, facial skincare and reflexology, she is attuned to the demands of our busy modern society and wants to offer a remedy to life’s daily stresses and struggles.

Leaving no stone unturned, she combines ancient, alternative therapies with techniques used in modern medicine, using all the tools at her disposal to help improve your mental and physical wellness.

When she’s not operating out of her King Street treatment room, she works at Manchester College teaching the finer points of holistic therapy to budding massage therapists.

One of her most popular stress-busting treatments is the sleep and restore experience.

This one-stop restorative treatment includes a full body aromatherapy massage in which Lola uses hot stones to iron out your knots, incorporating Indian head massage to ease tension, reflexology foot massage to balance body systems and a restore facial treatment – promising to brighten, hydrate and revive your skin, the natural way.

Working with carefully selected and personalised essential oils, Lola’s aromatherapy treatments are designed to engage your senses and to help you get the most out of your time on the table.

Aromatherapy is widely believed to have numerous benefits, helping with everything from stress and pain reduction to improvement with digestion, energy levels and the immune system.

The highly concentrated plant oils have different properties. Some are calming, whilst others boost energy levels. One of Lola’s skills is knowing which to use and when.

So whether you’re after a restorative or uplifting treatment experience, you’ll be in good hands with Lola at Massage Restore.
