The Lowry are on the hunt for Manchester’s next world class writer

The Lowry has set down a challenge to young writers across Greater Manchester, with some amazing prizes up for grabs.

Are you a budding poet, playwright, or storyteller aged 7-11?

Then get ready to unleash your creativity because The Lowry Creative Writing Challenge is back!

This prestigious competition, held annually, is a platform for showcasing the incredible talent of young writers across Greater Manchester.

The Lowry Creative Writing Challenge

Whether you’re into crafting captivating poetry, penning thrilling short stories, or scripting engaging plays, this challenge has something for everyone.

From spoken word to rap, limericks to stage plays, the possibilities are endless.

What are the categories?

The three categories for writing are:

Poetry: spoken word, limericks & rap.

Script/Play text: solo or group performance plays for stage & radio.

Short Stories: fiction & short stories

What do the winners win?

In each category, there will be runners-up and a 1st and 2nd place winner.

1st place wins a chance to perform on the amazing Lowry stage.

There will also be a winner selected by a panel of children and a winner of The Founders Prize which is selected by Beryl Jones; the founder of The Creative Writing Challenge.

2nd place wins a book token.

Runners up will also win a book token.

Shortlisted children will also receive feedback from a professional judging panel

Who can enter the Lowry Creative Writing Challenge?

If you’re between the ages of 7 and 11 and reside in Greater Manchester, this competition is tailor-made for you!

The challenge aims to be inclusive, accepting entries in various formats to accommodate different styles and needs.

How to enter

Submitting your masterpiece is a breeze.

You can enter online or via post, and submissions can be in written, typed, audio, or video formats.

Remember to keep a copy for yourself, as submissions won’t be returned.

By entering, you agree to use the entry in any associated publicity by The Lowry. An adult can enter online for the participant.

Please do not submit more than one entry per child per category.

When is the deadline?

Mark your calendars!

The deadline for entries is 12pm on April 26th, 2024.

Don’t miss your chance to showcase your talent on the prestigious Quays Theatre Stage.

The judging panel will then evaluate entries through a two-round process.

Celebration event for shortlisted entries is on 10th June

Successful entrants will be contacted on 20th May 2024.
