Winter can be a somewhat bleak time for some of us. The rain, the inevitable cold weather and the chaos of Christmas shoppers but please don’t get to disheartened, just imagine this. a wonderfully romantic alpine styled log cabin, roaring fires, an endearing and cosy atmosphere, a cup of delightfully warm cider and being sat with friends on fur lined log stools, it doesn’t seem so bad now does it!? Welcome to HIBERNATE.
“.without doubt the transformation of a cool summer bar into a wintery retreat has been done exceptionally well.”
This wintery gem is situated in The Spinningfields area of the city and is right next to the ice rink (aka The Lawns), as the sun called last orders on the bar formally known as INBLOOM the doors of Hibernate warmly opened to help us all embrace the cold festive period.
The bars’ director James Wrigley’s concept is really inspiring and without doubt the transformation of a cool summer bar into a wintery retreat has been done exceptionally well. INBLOOM has been turned upside-down. This is sure to be the place to keep warm this season.
Hot cider and mulled wine are generally the festive drinks of choice but this place has a plethora of beautiful tasting cocktails, a few of these have had the personal touch of Bar Manager Phillipa Myatt (aka Pip) these are delicious and are almost too good to be true, priced at only £6.50 and £7 (if it fizzes). An early Christmas treat for sure. (they are more than happy to make anything you want, just ask the gorgeous lot behind the bar).
Some highlights out of the many on offer are The Fig Old Fashioned which is a Christmas twist on a classic, the Fig Liquor gives it some real seasonal Influence. The Strawberry & Gingerbread Bellini is a festive twist on the classic Bellini with fresh strawberries and gingerbread sugar syrup added to the prosecco, this is so nice that one could soon turn into half a dozen so please be careful. Also, the Espresso Martini is a delight, this is a great combination of coffee liqueur, vodka and hazelnut with a shot of Mount Etna blend espresso this will give you a much needed kick to help you get back out into the cold reality.
Let’s not forget about the very wholesome and hearty food on sale. perfect for a bitter winters day. The Homemade Chilli comes highly recommended and is served with nachos or rice, once again a real steal at only £6. The soup of the day is freshly made daily in the kitchen and would easily warm the coldest of Yule tide customers.
As a truly delectable piece of winter escapism HIBERNATE must be as good as it gets, it may not have a lion, a witch or a wardrobe but it sure has everything else.
