Ok, so considering the weather and that fact that the clocks have just gone back, you’re probably not going to be too concerned with ice cream. But following their extremely successful summer Ginger’s Comfort Emporium are opening their Winter Comfort Emporium on November 4th on the second floor of Affleck’s Palace.
“Most of our customers won’t have been in Affleck’s Palace since that time they got their belly button pierced, or were buying Day-Glo rave gear!”
Talking about their decision to open in the iconic building, owners Claire Kelsey and Dan Manicolo said that they want “ice cream lovers to have a beautiful, sophisticated and cosy place to come and enjoy our flavours over winter. Most of our customers won’t have been in Affleck’s Palace since that time they got their belly button pierced, or were buying Day-Glo rave gear! So we need to show them Affleck’s has grown up with them.”
Popular classics such as the Chorlton Crack (salted caramel and peanut butter) will sit alongside a new winter collection including white truffle & hazelnut; liquorice & orange; cranberry crumble; a Brewdog Beer collaboration and the dish that scooped them Best Dessert (three years running) at the British Street Food Awards 2013 – extra virgin olive oil ice cream with Hawaiian black salt, strawberry sauce and black olive chocolate ‘flake’.
“.specialise in unusual flavours such as Marmalade on Toast, White Chocolate and Pink Peppercorn.”
As well as cold dishes, the Emporium will also serve hot dishes such as affogato with coffee or hot chocolate and toasted brioche ice cream sandwiches. Retail pots, copies of their ice cream book MELT and limited edition Ginger’s Comfort Emporium ice cream spoons will also be on sale in their winter paradise.
Ginger’s Comfort Emporium has been trading from their ice cream van since 2010 and specialise in unusual flavours such as Marmalade on Toast, White Chocolate and Pink Peppercorn, Plum and Gin & Juniper; last year they won Best of the Best at the British Street Food Awards so now that they have a permanent shop, there really is no reason not to pay them a visit. even if it is blowing a storm outside.
