A FREE drive-in cinema is being planned in Manchester this month – and it will be screening classic movie Grease as well as recent award-winner Bohemian Rhapsody.
The special drive-in event has been organised by Manchester’s Smooth Radio, and will take place over the second May bank holiday weekend on Sunday May 26th.
The Drive-in Cinema event will be at City Airport in Eccles, and as well as the movies on a big screen, there will be a variety of food stalls, vintage motor displays, fairground rides and even a flyby to keep all the family entertained.
At 3pm, the event will transport you back to high school in the 1950s for the classic rom-com starring John Travolta as too cool for school Danny Zuko and Olivia Newton-John as sweet Aussie Sandy Olsson.
Then at 7pm you can watch Oscar-winning movie Bohemian Rhapsody, the story of legendary rock band Queen and lead singer Freddie Mercury.
The foot stomping biopic portrays the rise of the band and one of the most beloved entertainers of all time all in the lead up to Live Aid. Remi Malek, who takes on the role of Freddie in the movie, won a clutch of big awards for his performance, including an Academy Award and BAFTA for Best Actor.
To apply for FREE tickets for the drive in cinema, you will need to register at the Smooth Radio website. Or download the I Love MCR app where you can apply for tickets via our events page.
You will be asked which film you want to see – you can opt to see both – and will then be sent an e-ticket to your chosen film(s), which you will need to gain access to the event. As this is a popular event, it is advised to get down to City Airport early on the day so you don’t miss out.
