There’ll be no place like HOME on Sunday 24th of May when Manchester’s newest neighbourhood hosts its first ever street party. The city’s new international centre for contemporary visual art, theatre and film will be holding a family friendly day of art, music and theatre to celebrate its arrival.
‘a contemporary street party
complete with long communal
tables and a bandstand’
The free event will be packed with an eclectic array of activities and entertainment to introduce local residents and families to this vibrant new city centre neighbourhood.
The event will see Tony Wilson Place transformed into a contemporary street party complete with long communal tables and a bandstand, featuring a line-up of not-to-be-missed performances, and a rooftop garden party with sets from some of Manchester’s finest DJ’s on the roof of Q-Park First Street.
Roaming entertainers and giant jenga and chess will keep older children entertained, whilst younger party goers will be mesmerised by the “The World’s Tallest Bubbleologist’s” magical bubble shows.
HOME itself will also be hosting a variety of family friendly activities including storytellers, fun workshops and family-focused building tours.
A wide variety of music will be featured throughout the day from the bandstand with something for everyone, from jazz and swing to flamenco.
Street food will be the order of the day, with many international influences from Cantonese dim sum to American hot dogs and South African bunny chow. What better way to polish that all off with ice cream from Gingers Emporium or cakes and coffee from Coffee Cranks Cooperative.
For those seeking a little light refreshment, HOME will be serving beers alongside their pizza and Vin Van Voom will be offering a selection of fine wines and fizz.
If you fancy relaxing, head to the roof of Q park with cocktail in hand for a garden party featuring ambient grooves from a number of top Manchester DJ’s.
The First Street Party is part of the HOMEwarming- a five-day bank holiday weekend celebration packed full of parties, films, visual art, events, tours and music to launch HOME.
First Street is located just off Whitworth Street West and is a two-minute walk from the Deansgate-Castlefield Metrolink stop.
