Images of an almost completed new £5.7M new day centre and swimming pool in Bolton have been released ahead of its opening.

Finishing touches are now being made at Bolton’s relocated Jubilee centre, which has been dubbed the ‘jewel in the crown’ for Bolton’s care sector.

The centre is operated by Bolton Cares, the council-owned adult social care company.

Bolton Cares said the vision for the centre, at the former Firwood School site, was ‘a state-of-the-art day centre with hydrotherapy pool for adults with learning and physical disabilities, young people with autism, and young people with disabilities who have left school and are transitioning to adulthood’.

It will replace the existing Jubilee Centre on Tennyson Street, Halliwell, which was built in 1983 and is now no longer fit for purpose.

Publishing the most recent pictures of the new centre, a spokesman for Bolton Cares, said: “We are adding finishing touches, signs and furnishings to bring the centre to life.

“We’re sure you’ll agree, it looks amazing.” They added that the new centre will boast a new pool, rebound room, sensory rooms and many other facilities which will provide community support and improve opportunities for adults with learning disabilities across the town.

People who use the existing centre have been involved in the decision-making process from the beginning and were instrumental in deciding where the new centre should be built and what it will contain.

Recently a group of users from the existing Jubilee Centre visited the site to check on progress and were impressed with what they saw.

They also took part in a treasure hunt on site so that they could explore.

Bolton Cares, added: “We are very excited by the progress being made, so far.

“The Robertson Group who are building our new centre are also employing a number of local people.

“Their most recent recruit lives within walking distance of the site.

“They are also helping a Bolton College student with his construction, planning and surveying studies and giving him a nine-week placement to kick-start his career in the industry.”
