Programme

Headline act: Blue Rose Code

Blue Rose Code is a band led by Edinburgh-born, Liverpool-based singer songwriter Ross Wilson, at once, one of Edinburgh’s favourite sons and still one of Scotland’s best kept secrets.

Blue Rose Code’s music has been described as “Ravishingly beautiful, a blaze of Caledonian Soul, muted jazz & poetic recitation” (Uncut), having an “almost religious intensity and sincerity.”

Their previous albums include ‘With Healing Of The Greatest Kind’ (2020), ‘The Water of Leith’ (2017), ‘The Ballads of Peckham Rye’ (2014) and most recently, 2023’s reflective compilation, ‘Ten Years Grace.’

Wilson’s career has seen him work with the great Danny Thompson, Eddi Reader, and most recently, co-write with English folk royalty Steve Knightley and Blue Rose Code’s records have featured Karine Polwart, Ewan McGregor, and Nashville Gospel legends, The McCrary Sisters, along with some of the UK’s finest Jazz Musicians

Wilson has opened for Van Morrison, toured with The Proclaimers, Deacon Blue, and Blue Rose Code have been featured on Film, TV and Radio.

Last summer saw the band play main stages at Cambridge Folk Festival, Shrewsbury Festival, and Black Deer Festival.

The experience of playing to the big crowds has developed the Blue Rose Code sound into an unmissable live show and that energy has been taken into the studio for upcoming new album, ‘Bright Circumstance.’

Experience this live in the magical setting of The Monastery in Manchester on this Spring Sunday afternoon!

Support Act: David Gorman

David Gorman is a Manchester, UK-based indie-folk singer-songwriter who makes the kind of vintage-sounding music that leaves you feeling warm and safe inside your locked-up soul.

Inspired by the likes of Bright Eyes, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, and Gregory Alan Isakov, David has become a songwriter known for his catchy melodies and delicate guitar playing but it is his passion for lyrics that stands out when you listen to the stories told through his songs.

With a voice so undiluted and unforgettable that you just want to listen to him all day, Manchester’s David Gorman is the definition of an underground diamond in the rough.

His intricate melodies scintillate your mind awake from a self-enforced slumber – as his vivid storytelling has you in a thoughtful wonder – which somehow has the power to give you detailed flashbacks from your own life.

Support Act: Olivia Booth

Olivia Booth is an exciting new artist and an emerging singer-songwriter, now living in Manchester, who writes from the heart and is inspired by real life events.

Her sensationally descriptive storytelling allows the listener to clearly connect with the context and messages of her songs, and her powerful, hauntingly beautiful vocals bring the emotionally evocative lyrics of her songs to life, resonating with all genres and audiences.

Olivia’s sound is an eclectic mix of indie pop with some folk, rock, country occasional R&B and even sometimes gypsy influences, and has been described by one critic as ‘mesmerising and enchanting.’

She has graced the stages of prestigious venues like the O2 Arena in London, Patterns and Komedia in Brighton, EBGBs and The Zanzibar Club in Liverpool, plus Maxwell Hall and The Deaf Institute in Manchester, and many more.
