Patch it! Visible Clothes Mending Workshop

28 May @ 11:00 - 14:00

£5
manchester jewish museum patch it

Join us as we explore creative ways of mending clothes and learn how to give your worn clothing a new life.

This family-friendly workshop is inspired by items in our collection, which belonged to a Jewish refugee called Helen, who travelled to Manchester with just 1 suitcase of belongings. Helen repaired her dress and 1 pair of socks out of necessity, but mending is also a great way to extend the life of well-loved clothes, and stop clothes going to landfill.

During this session we will be looking at visible mending techniques, which celebrate slow fashion and make repair in to a beautiful decorative feature which tell a story.

Please bring with you any clothes that you’d like to repair. We’ll also have some additional clothes and fabric to work with. You’ll get to take them home at the end of the workshop!

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
This workshop is open to anyone, of all ages and abilities. Beginners and experts are all welcome – this is a space for everyone to relax and be creative!

If you have any questions about the session, please email Olivia at [email protected].

Two sessions available: 11am-12pm and 1-2pm
