Mancbeth launch featuring Rowetta, DJ Jon Dasilva, Maria Uzor & friends
Two legendary names from Manchester’s music scene, Rowetta from Happy Mondays and DJ Jon Dasilva will be performing at the launch night of Mancbeth, a new Shakespeare meets 90’s rave electronic musical experience.
Rowetta will be performing an exclusive personal selection of Joy Division tracks with the Peter Hook endorsed band Shadowplay. Rowetta will also perform a couple of her own current club bangers and a beautiful version of ‘You Got The Love’ to complete this celebratory evening of Manchester’s musical history.
Jon Dasilva, one of the original resident DJ’s at the legendary FAC51 Hacienda club who is credited with introducing the sound of acid house to the UK club scene will be the special guest DJ playing a mix of his current favourite tracks and Hacienda classics to close the night.
Mancunian electronic producer Octavia Freud & The Weird Sisters will be performing live electronic bangers from his hit debut album Mancbeth. He is joined by the vocal talents of Emma Hunter, Mila Todd, The Bobo, Cate Debu and Pet Twin. The Mancbeth concept album is based on Mancunian David Lemberg’s original screenplay, which updates the famous ‘Scottish play’ 400 years to the early 90’s rave years by setting it in a Manchester acid house club called Glam-iz; loosely based on The Hacienda.
Maria Uzor will bring her vibrant dark-wave mutant vocal post-punk style for a highly anticipated support slot that will include a set of blistering electronic songs taken from her current critically acclaimed album, ‘Soft Cuts’. Electronic duo Means of Production open proceedings with their impressively tight acid house grooves and live projected brutalist visuals set. The Glam-iz resident DJ for this unique immersive musical experience will be electronic producer Tiger Mendoza. Actor Brian Gorman will recreate the Macbeth’s fictional nightclub Glam-iz by being MC for the evening. He will reprise his role as Factory records boss Tony Wilson from his hit show, ‘New Dawn Fades’ to introduce the acts and describe how the euphoric Madchester years came to a bloody end under the Macbeth’s reign.
