Learn to Weave on a Backstrap Loom with Jenny Steele
Would you like to learn how to weave on a backstrap loom? Whether you would like to develop your creative textile skills or enjoy a mindful and creative afternoon learning the process of weaving using the body, this 3-hour afternoon workshop will show you how to create an individual colourful weave using the plain, tabby and inlay weave technique on a backstrap loom.
Back strap weaving is an Ancient weaving technique where the loom is suspended between the waist of the weaver and a stationary object, such as a table leg or post. On pre warped looms we will weave with sustainable yarn, ribbons and plants to create a colourful and textured loom to take home to hang or use as a textile.
What is included: All textile materials, a pre warped loom for the session, illustrated guidelines for weaving, warping and finishing off weave, list of recommended materials and suppliers post workshop, refreshments during session.
Suitable for ages 14+. Not suitable for those with back or neck issues. Beginners – no previous experience required.
Group is limited to 8 participants for close attention, places are limited.
