Hallé St Peter’s welcomes the Klezmorim of Manchester for a toetapping evening of freshly arranged music and traditional klezmer dance.
This welcome return of the Klezmer evening to Hallé St Peter’s brings together musicians and dancers from the Hallé and the Klezmorim of Manchester for an evening of optional participatory dance led by local klezmer dance leaders, musical interludes from the traditional klezmer tradition and freshly arranged klezmer-classical crossover pieces. This is an opportunity to put your left and right foot into the world of klezmer, the inter-generational musical and dance cultures of the Jewish communities of Eastern Europe. Try out a dance or two, or simply sit back and listen to the rich crossover of musical tradition.
KoM are joined by the Hallé’s very own violist Chris Emerson, who has worked with the students from the UoM Klezmer Ensemble over the years to develop their performance skills and enhance musicianship. Also joining us will be local dance band leaders Judith Plowman and Adrian Dobson to bring you an immersive klezmer dance experience.
This event is supported by the University of Manchester Humanities Strategic Civic Engagement Fund. Refreshments are generously provided by Brackmans Bakery, including traditional kosher baked goods.
The next event is on Monday 17 February 2025, 7pm-9pm at Hallé St Peter’s. There is also the opportunity to have a dance lesson before the main event, should you wish to learn some dance steps.
