Overview

What happens when football legends join forces with leading artists? Football City, Art United is a bold new exhibition that explores the beautiful game through creativity, play and imagination – opening this summer at Aviva Studios.

This interactive exhibition features collaborations between football stars and contemporary artists. Look out for work by Manchester United icon Eric Cantona, Lioness Ella Toone, Manchester City’s Vivianne Miedema and many more. Expect immersive installations, playable artworks and a fresh take on football culture, from the pitch to pop art.

Your experience begins with a light, sound and vibration tunnel designed by Dutch footballer Edgar Davids and artist Paul Pfeiffer – inspired by iconic stadiums like the San Siro and cinematic moments such as Lord of the Rings. It recreates the high-stakes walk from tunnel to pitch.

At the heart of the exhibition is The Playmaker – a giant interactive football sculpture featuring pods, tunnels and targets. Visitors can shoot, pass and move through the space, channelling Italian legend Sandro Mazzola or inventing their own style of play.

Highlights also include:

  • A hologram of Diego Maradona singing
  • A manga-style retelling of Shinji Kagawa’s life
  • A giant animated mascot inspired by Mexico’s Jorge Campos

Whether you’re football-mad or just here for the art, this one-of-a-kind exhibition blends sport, culture and imagination in spectacular style.

Tickets from £9. Kids under 16 go free with a full-price adult.
