The acclaimed production will star 8 international principal dancers and showcase the exciting talent of 100 of the region’s top young dance.
Cinderella in Hollywood will take you back to the glamorous era of 1950s Hollywood movies. The lavish ballet draws its inspiration from the film star Grace Kelly who met Prince Rainier of Monaco at a press party and later married him. Cinderella is a seamstress on a film set and the Fairy Godmother is her late mother – a former movie star of the 1930s. Her wicked sisters are Hollywood starlets competing with each other for starring film roles. The Prince meets Cinderella at the press party but at midnight she flees from the scene leaving a sparkly silver pointe-shoe as the only clue to her identity.
The soaring musical score to Cinderella in Hollywood features music by Shostakovich and Gershwin and has a jazz-age feel. Much of the score is instantly recognisable – with gems such as Shostakovich’s Jazz Suite, Tea for Two and Smoke Gets in Your Eyes.
English Youth Ballet’s stunning professional principal dancers have danced in some of the world’s top ballet companies including the Royal Ballet Company, English National Ballet, National Ballet of Portugal, Ballet Capitole du Toulouse, Vienna Festival Ballet and Cymru Ballet.
