One day workshop aimed at budding at-home screen printers! Learn fabric printing from artist Wendy Roby how to screen print at home using inexpensive equipment and enjoy expressing yourself through pattern, colour and form.
What will I learn at Creative Screen Printing?
You’ll learn how to screen print onto fabric using paper and reuseable stencils. We’ll be using a simple method you can quickly, easily and inexpensively replicate at home.
Skills covered include good technique, what equipment is really essential and ways to balance texture, colour and form. You’ll be sent a detailed booklet after the class; leaving you free to enjoy the day without having to take notes.
What’s different about this course?
This isn’t a course where you reproduce a photo, image or drawing onto paper or a tote bag. It’s a full day of creative expression, where you’ll learn innovative, playful ways to use a silk screen at home. You don’t need to be able to draw; just bring an appreciation for colour and pattern!
Wendy will teach you several ways to create beautiful colour effects, bringing life, texture and form into your printmaking – whether you’re a beginner or have already tried screen printing before. Many of these methods use materials you’ll either already own and some will be recyclable and/or reusable.
How could I apply these skills after the class?
This method of screen printing can be used to print on paper, wood and fabric. You could use your new printmaking skills to design and print your own fabric (for clothes or home furnishings), to make art, customise or upcycle clothes; make books…the possibilities are endless!
What will I take home?
You’ll take away several prints at the end of the day. During the workshop we’ll bind these samples into a book of ideas, which you can use to inspire your printmaking journey when you get home.
There will also be an opportunity to buy the kit we use in class, so you can start printing at home *straight away*.
