A Creative Writing Workshop with author Jay Prosser

Join us for an interactive family-friendly workshop with Jay Prosser this half-term holiday! Explore the fascinating world of objects and their stories. Together, we’ll create a collection of stories that could even become part of the museum’s collection!

Is there an object that fascinates you, or that you can’t live without? Objects are silent, and yet they beckon us to tell their stories. Objects often form part of a family inheritance, museums are full of antique objects, and our lives are stuffed with all kinds of objects. People make objects, but objects, in turn, make us as people.

This workshop, designed for families with children of primary school age and up, invites you to bring an object to the museum (or treasure-hunt an object in the museum when you arrive) which will form the starting point for your story. Your object can be a family heirloom or just acquired, unique or something everyone owns. From our objects, we will spin stories, both made-up and true. The end result will be a collection of stories, which might in turn become part of the museum’s collection.

Jay Prosser is Professor in Humanities at the University of Leeds, where he specialises in Jewish studies and teaching family memoir. He is author and editor of books on diverse subjects. His writing has appeared in Jewish Renaissance, The Jewish Chronicle, JewThink, and The Jewish Writing Project, among other places.
