Top travel tips

Before you travel

Fit to fly certificates: If you are pregnant and need a medical certificate proving you are safe to travel, and the pregnancy is healthy. You might also have an underlying health conditions such as a heart condition and need proof that it is safe to travel. For any of these reasons, you’ll need a consultation with a GP, who can declare you fit to fly. The Doctors Clinic offer this service at their private GP clinic in Manchester where they can write and the sign the fit to fly certificate and letter if you are fit to fly. 

Immigration and visa medicals: The doctors at the private GP clinic on Bridge Street can perform medical examinations for visa applications for a range of different countries. If you are planning to move to a new country or spend a significant amount of time travelling within a country, you may need a visa medical. Their Manchester private GP can support you every step of the way as you meet the necessary medical requirements for travelling.  

Mental health support: If you’re feeling anxious about getting back to travel, The Doctors Clinic Group offers expert mental health support and will discuss how you’re feeling and suitable support and treatment. You can do this in person or via a video appointment, so you can also speak to one of their doctors while you are abroad.

Pre-travel COVID testing available if you need a COVID test pre-travel as an entry requirement by the country in which you are travelling.

While you are travelling

Video GP appointments from wherever you are. You can speak to a UK based private GP from anywhere in the world. 

While you are abroad, you can still book a video GP appointment with one of their private GPs, giving the people of Manchester peace of mind that they are getting the best possible medical advice wherever they are. 

You can speak to one of their doctors within four working hours. Reassurance that you always have access to expert medical advice when you need it. 

When you return

Day 2 and 8 COVID testing: Depending on where you are travelling back from, there are mandatory COVID tests you need to take on your return, as well as voluntary schemes such as the Test to Release programme (if you are travelling from an amber country). 

Travellers from green list country need to take a COVID test on or before day 2 when they arrive back to the UK. 

Travellers from amber list countries need to take a test on or before day 2 of their self-isolation and a second Covid test on or after day 8 of their 10-day self-isolation. Travellers from amber list countries may also opt for the government’s Test to Release scheme which means you can take a third Covid test and stop self-isolating after 5 days.
