A passionate group of volunteers is spearheading a project to revamp the underutilised Chorlton Skatepark, and they’re calling for your support.

Chorlton Skatepark Upgrade

The team has garnered support from the local council and various organizations to initiate a redevelopment project for Chorlton Skatepark.

They have recently unveiled a Crowdfunding campaign, aiming to raise £300k, starting with this initial £30k fundraiser for the construction of a state-of-the-art concrete skatepark.

The campaign, hosted on Crowdfunder, has already secured a commendable start, with £10k of match funding pledged by Sport England if they reach £7,500 of local support.

Chorlton Skatepark, currently underused for skateboarding, holds immense potential for transformation.

The proposed redevelopment is not just about creating a recreational space but fostering a sense of community.

The initiative aims to enhance the mental and physical well-being of residents while revitalizing the local environment.

Volunteer Fundraising Plan

Powered by a dedicated group of volunteers, including skaters and parents, the project collaborates with Friends of Chorlton Park and Manchester Active.

The team has set a target of £300k to construct a new concrete skatepark on the existing site, and the Crowdfunder campaign is a crucial component in achieving this goal.

Inclusive Skateboarding Vision

The envisioned skatepark is designed to cater to a diverse audience, from beginners to seasoned skaters, BMX enthusiasts, and more.

The team is keen on creating a facility that accommodates various wheeled sports, ensuring accessibility for all members of the community.

A spokesperson from the project said: “We are a group of volunteers who came together in 2022 to get Chorlton Skatepark redeveloped.

“We are skaters, parents and skater parents.

“We work as part of the Friends of Chorlton Park group, who helps to provide our governance, as a formally constituted organisation.

“We are also working with Manchester Active to make sure they support our plans and can help us to make this happen.

“We’ve benefited from the work of Skate Chorlton, a previous volunteer group who managed to raise £10k in funding, which we are using as a contribution to this project.

“We have support from Unity and Projekts MCR, local community organisations who will help us set up youth programmes and coaching sessions to help widen the use of the new skatepark.”

Benefits for the Community

The project extends beyond recreation, aiming to address the needs of the local community.

Located in an area marked by economic challenges, the new skatepark is poised to provide affordable and engaging activities for young people.

The initiative also seeks to incorporate features that benefit disabled individuals, aligning with the active Wheel Chair Moto Cross (WCMX) scene in Manchester.

How You Can Support the Project

The team outlines four simple ways for individuals and businesses to contribute to this transformative endeavour:

  1. Make a Pledge: Every contribution counts, and momentum is key to success.
  2. Spread the Word: Share the campaign on social media to broaden its reach.
  3. Offer Rewards: Local businesses are encouraged to donate rewards for supporters.
  4. Fundraising: Individuals can run their fundraisers, contributing to the overall campaign.

This initiative aligns with Manchester’s commitment to equality, aiming to make services and opportunities as fair as possible.

By creating a vibrant and accessible space, the project contributes to community well-being, social connections, and environmental sustainability.

As the campaign gains traction, your support becomes integral to turning this vision into reality.

Donate, share, and be a part of transforming Chorlton Skatepark into a hub for community, inclusivity, and well-being.

Together, let’s roll into a brighter future for Manchester’s wheeled sports enthusiasts.
