Chapeltown Picture House is reopening today – and to celebrate, they’re putting on a week of “films about cinema”.

The films include Inglorious Basterds, Cinema Paradiso (4K), Tropic Thunder, Demons (4K), Last Action Hero, and Singin’ in the Rain, alongside the fan-favourite Lord of the Rings trilogy in stunning 4K.

Then on 29th May for one entire day of kaiju glory, Chapeltown Picture House is showing an all-day marathon of cult movies featuring giant monsters.

The line up consists of the iconic original 1954 Godzilla, Guillermo Del Toro and Steven S. DeKnight’s Pacific Rim in 4K, Matt Reeves’ modern classic Cloverfield in 4K, and to top it all off, Bong Joon Ho’s The Host.

All-dayer tickets are £20.

Situated in the top floor of GRUB, the new Chapeltown Picture House features a space that can be adapted for film screenings, video game sessions, live podcast recordings, comedy shows, talks, and more.

The space was launched by the team behind award winning street food market GRUB and live music venue Fairfield Social Club in 2019 before moving to their new permanent Green Quarter site in 2020.

The 4K projector is powered by a top-of-the-line gaming PC with an Nvidia RTX 3080 graphics card at its heart, ensuring the ultimate gaming experience on the big screen or in VR.

“It’s been a long winter, and we can’t wait to welcome people back to the cinema,” says Tobias Soar, Picture House manager.

“It’s all about celebrating what makes the cinema experience so special.

“Some films weren’t meant for streaming – they deserve the big screen, a dark room, and an audience”.

The Picture House has several measures in place to give guests peace of mind regarding COVID-19.

These measures include commercial-grade AeraMax Pro air purifiers, socially distanced seating, a one-way entry and exit system, and a fully contactless and cashless ordering experience for drinks, popcorn, and ice cream.

Reopening week at the Chapeltown Picture House takes place at GRUB, 50 Red Bank starting Monday 17th May. All events are ticketed. You can find out more and book tickets here
