It’s been a rotten summer so far. It’s nearly midsummer and we’re still putting the heating on in the evenings.

But don’t panic. July and August are the hottest months so you know that sooner or later it’s going to stop throwing it down and we’ll get some proper summer weather.

Summer weather means barbecues.

You’ve got the grill. You’ve got the charcoal. You’ve even got the stainless steel tongs. The only problem is you haven’t got a clue what you’re doing.

Or maybe it’s somebody else who hasn’t got a clue what they’re doing and you’ve had enough of eating raw chicken, burnt sausages and blackened burgers.

You’d like to have a go but you haven’t got the confidence because you can’t get close to the barbecue. That’s because the person in your life who won’t lift a finger to help in the kitchen hogs the barbecue and won’t let go of the tongs.

Luckily, there is a solution.

Didsbury cookery and barista school Food Sorcery run a BBQ course that will give you the skills to cook on the open flame with confidence, take your place as pit master for the day and whip up some classic BBQ dishes to impress your friends and family.

You will learn everything you need to know from fire lighting, maintenance and fire control with a charcoal fire to the importance of good quality meat, where to find it and what to do with it.

You will be shown how to prepare, season and butcher the meat or fish you will be cooking. You will then break into groups to prepare your own meat ready to BBQ.

You’ll receive a complimentary glass of wine, lager or beer and the food that you will prepare with the spices.

There’ll be a fully stocked bar bar with fantastic beers, wines and spirits to enjoy throughout the day which can be purchased with card or cash.

The course is suitable for all skill levels and abilities. If you would like to book an exclusive event they can do this for groups of ten or more. They can also customise the menu for exclusive events.

There are lots of other classes at Food Sorcery. Here’s a few taking place in the near future to inspire you. You can book specific cookery classes or buy a gift voucher so the lucky person who receives it can choose his or her own.

Steak
A real treat for any meat lover. At this steak masterclass dad can eat some of the best cuts of red meat in Manchester, courtesy of local butchers Axons of Didsbury and Three Little Pigs. He’ll also get to learn all about different cuts of meat and how best to cook them at home to his liking.

Big & Little Cooks
These parent and child classes, perfect for younger children or teens, will have the two of you working as a team alongside a professional chef to create a two course meal comprised of a side dish, a main course and a pudding. Once you’ve made it, sit down an enjoy it together at the school’s big communal table.

Cooking Together
A fun take on dining out, the cooking together classes are perfect for getting that quality time in with a friend or relative. Under guidance from the school’s chef, you and your companion will cook a three-course meal which you’ll then enjoy with the rest of the group at the school’s big, family-style dining table.

World Food
Whether you love a fiery hot curry or are mad about ramen, you can explore that passion with one of Food Sorcery’s world food classes. Their chefs have a wealth of authentic world experience – and recipes – to share, plus plenty of fun stories to keep you entertained too.
