Brighter Sound, a pioneering creative music charity based in Manchester, is offering musicians aged 16-21 the opportunity to join post-punk trio PINS for a week of collaboration, music industry insights and a special live performance this July.

This free five-day residency is aimed at young musicians from Greater Manchester, Cheshire and Merseyside who are working towards a music career, and want to develop their creative and collaboration skills and learn more about the music industry.

The residency will take place at The Met in Bury between Monday 26 – Friday 30 July, and is part of Brighter Sound’s work to support and nurture the next generation of exciting and diverse music creators.

During the week, selected musicians will spend five days working with Faith, Kyoko and Abbi from PINS.

They’ll be able to collaborate with like-minded musicians to write a new EP, and record their EP at Edwin Street Recording Studio as well as performing live with PINS at award-winning live music venue The Met on the evening of Friday 30th July.

They’ll also take part in a photoshoot and learn about press shots and artist image with music photographer Debbie Ellis, and find out about artist management and setting up your own record label with PINS manager Elisa Aimi.

Plus, they’ll get an understanding of music publishing and songwriting for sync with Anastasia Pegi (Ninja Tune/Just Isn’t Music), and learn about the mental health and wellbeing support available to musicians with Rachel Jepson (founder of Counselling for Musicians).

Since the release of Girls Like Us in 2013, PINS have exuded strength in their danceable alternative post-punk transmissions and earned the trust, endorsement, and creative blessings of rock royalty such as Iggy Pop and peers including Jamie Hince of The Kills.

Applications are now open until Sunday 27th June at 11pm, and interested musicians should apply via the Brighter Sound website here.
