As we know from the inimitable Ian Brown, the only thing that Manchester doesn’t have is a beach. Well save your train fares to Blackpool because this spring, we’re getting a bay. Say ‘well, hello there’ to Turtle Bay, Manchester’s new Caribbean restaurant and bar.

“…capturing the heart & soul of The Caribbean”

Coming in May to inject a little colour and brashness into our city, the new site will take up 8,000 soulful square feet of retail space, create 70 jobs and teach the Great British public the art of ‘liming.’

A culture which is notoriously excellent at relaxing, joins our notoriously stressful one to give the gift of chatting and sharing stories over food and drink for no other reason than because it’s great.

If liming doesn’t already sound like a particularly perfect way to spend any afternoon, then how about trying dishes you never thought you’d have after your gap year? Jerk pit ribs and ‘Turtle Bay’ patties are joined by Blue Mountain Curry Goat and an extensive choice of sharers to dig in to over cocktails.

Ah yes, the cocktails. Rum is at the heart, of course, and served from the island bar in the centre of the venue, to be enjoyed on one of the inside verandas with exciting food and relaxed conversation.

And if you’re worried that customer service could affect authenticity of theme, then think again: employees were tasked with a rigorous audition including psychometric tests and limbo dancing, to make sure they are absolutely at one with this laid back brand.

May. Oxford Road. Be there or forever lament that Manchester has no beach.
