Manchester’s best known private hire taxi firm, StreetCars, are fully operational and have been busy helping people with their essential journeys.

The private hire’s recent official partnership deal with Manchester Airport saw them command three offices at each of the terminals, reinforce their fleet to 800 drivers across the region and expand to a total of 120 staff. However, with travel and tourism being one of the first sectors to freeze in the coronavirus outbreak, the independent company has been left high and dry.

Despite their business being adversely affected by COVID-19, they are generously using their existing assets and resources to assist the community with essential journeys.

Some of these essential journeys are of course transporting our heroic NHS workers to and from various hospitals around the region.

StreetCars Manchester, established 2002, have even been changing their rota’s and time sheets to accommodate unpredictable and impulsive trips to support the NHS.

The family-run business wants to put profit aside and offer free rides for NHS workers. To prove their commitment to this, they’ve donated £5,000 to the initiative themselves.

“We want to give FREE rides to the amazing NHS workers and need your help,” said a spokesperson at Street Cars. “We have set up a GoFundMe page and have contributed [£5,000] to get it started.

StreetCars Manchester aim to fundraise a target of £20,000.

“Please follow this link and donate what you can – our NHS deserve all the love and support they can get.”

Looking at the bigger picture of this crisis, StreetCars have also been delivering food boxes to local care homes and elderly people in the community. If that’s not enough, the popular cab company are also offering free rides to anyone over the vulnerable age of 65.

“Amidst the chaos once again, where would we be without all the people working around the clock?” These have always been the true heroes; Front line service personnel, NHS workers, doctors, nurses, emergency services… Bless them all.”

StreetCars want to know who needs their help and they need you to speak up: “If anyone knows any elderly or vulnerable communities please get in touch. We have been getting out some essential food items as we reach the peak of the virus and they need us now more than ever.”

You can book a taxi via the StreetCars APP and pay contactless for the safest option.
