Grill on the Alley unveils its new Crimbo cocktails this week courtesy of head barman Chris Melville and we had a sneak taster of these festive treats.

“THE GRILL ON THE ALLEY ISN’T JUST FOR FOOD.  IT’S A NICE PLACE TO GO FOR A DRINK, TOO.”

There’s four yuletide beverages to choose from starting from just £7 and we found that there was literally something for every quaffing taste.

First up was Emma Chadwick’s favourite, the Champagne Breakfast, which blends vodka, Gran Marnier, lemon, cranberry and of, course, champers. This sang on the tongue like the very best carol singers and had a lovely tart counterpoint. Scrummy.

Up next was the ‘Christmas in Kentucky‘ that had what looked like a huge branch of Christmas tree in it. Made from Wild Turkey with a festive flavouring  of nutmeg, cloves, allspice and pine-infused sugar syrup, this one went down a treat and was our favourite. It was barman Chris’s favourite, too.

Next up was the ‘Pride and Joy‘ which tasted like a wonderfully alcoholic (and liquid) mince pie. It was a blend of rum, lime juice, almond syrup and mincemeat and came complete with a shortbread biscuit.

One of our group, Rupert (The Bear) Cade, is also entering the drinks market soon with the launch of ‘Ru’s Brew’ which he said is a bit yeasty and tastes of thrush. Perhaps not the best slogan in the world. There are only 39 bottles to date but the logo’s nice.

Last but by no means least, was the Grill’s answer to the Christmas markets – a warm ‘Spiced Pear Punch‘ that mixed the fruit with elderflower, sherry, gin, vanilla and apple. Nice.

The Grill on the Alley’s got some tasty winter specials on the very consistently exquisite food menu including:

WE LOVE: TREACLE GLAZED SLOW-BRAISED BEEF SHORT RIB
Served with buttered mash (pictured).

GRILLED MACKEREL
With charred baby gem, tomato salsa and lemon.

HONEY GLAZED ROASTED DUCK BREAST
Topped with onions and pea shoots and pan-roasted.

CORN-FED CHICKEN BREAST
With red wine and beetroot risotto.

Nom nom.

The Grill on the Alley isn’t just for food.  It’s a nice place to go for a drink, too. Give it a go.

And before you click anywhere else, don’t forget to have a butchers at their Christmas menu. “may you be merry and lack nothing.”
