Love escape rooms but tired of the same old themes? Fed up with Brexit? Ever thought you’d like to go back in time to before the referendum or escape to another reality where the result would be different?

Unfortunately, you can’t do that in real life. But you can do the next best thing. Because a Brexit-themed escape room has launched in Manchester offering you the chance to replay the EU referendum but in a more humorous, light hearted and satirical way.

The “Battle of Brexit” escape room is set in a parallel universe where another EU referendum has been called.

Choosing to play as either Leave or Remain, you have managed to find the other side’s war room following a miserable campaign. You have to break in and leak as much damning evidence as possible. And to do this you need to solve puzzles and clues.

If you can leak enough dirt before voting closes, you’ll swing the referendum vote in your favour. You have 75 minutes to do so – slightly longer than the traditional 60 minute format.

The escape room’s satirical take on the referendum gives you the opportunity for some fun and games around a topic that has been hanging around for far too long and has become notoriously draining and exhausting. This is your chance to relieve those Brexit frustrations and enjoy an escape room experience at the same time.

The escape room is run by Alternate Escapes, a recently launched escape room company based at the new Pollard Yard creative community site in New Islington.

They want to bring new and interesting themes not currently seen in other escape rooms.

“Brexit has been rumbling on for years now, and probably won’t truly go away for at least another year,” says founder Ben Fowler.

“I therefore wanted to use the escape room format so that people can experience the topic of Brexit in a far more enjoyable way! The escape room is packed with satire and on the nose jokes which people have found a great laugh and to some degree cathartic with the ongoing drama of Brexit in the real world.”

Tickets and gift vouchers are available now.
