On Wednesday 17th July, Honest Burgers on Bridge Street will be holding an Honesty Box Day between 11.30am and 4.30pm.

They’re asking customers to pay what they feel their meal is worth, with 100% of the proceeds donated between three local charities.

The three charities, as voted for by Honest Burgers’ customers, are Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, which looks after over 270,000 children each year; Mood Swings, which helps people overcome issues such as anxiety and depression; and Ancoats charity Mustard Tree, which supports people across Greater Manchester in poverty and facing homelessness.

When dining, customers simply stick a sticker on the donations board next to the charity they wish their donation to go to and the proceeds are split accordingly.

You can choose any items from the menu, including the Manchester special, which sees a combination of Honest beef, (from their own butchery), Bury black pudding, Runaway beer cheese sauce, mini roasties, bacon gravy, rocket and pickles.

Customers can also order this month’s special, Buffalo Chicken, which is made with free-range buttermilk fried chicken, smoked bacon, Frank’s Red Hot buffalo sauce, blue cheese mayo, pickles and lettuce.

Or a vegan-friendly option is the Plant burger, featuring a Beyond Meat patty topped with vegan smoked Gouda and chipotle mayo.

All burgers come with homemade rosemary salted chips, which have been described by food critic Jay Rayner as “edible crystal meth”.

“The idea for our Honesty Box Day came from seeing an honesty box in a little coastal town in Wales, which donated all the proceeds to the community,” said Tom Barton, co-founder of Honest Burgers.

“That started the wheels turning and got us thinking about how we could do something good for the local community when we open a new restaurant.

“So please do turn up, tuck in and dig deep for three very worthy causes.”
