New craft beer, sausage & mash and live music venue ‘Mash Tun’ to open at former Grafene site

New craft beer bar and sausage and mash restaurant Mash Tun is to launch at the site of the former Grafene fine dining restaurant on King Street.
The venue is being created by best friends Adam Regan and Scott Martin who have plenty of experience in the hospitality industry, and a mutual passion for real ale.
They aim to combine great food with a host of real ales from local breweries, with a total of 26 beer taps along the 12 metre long bar at the heart of the venue.
The menu will include 10 different sausages, 10 different mashes and 10 different gravies to choose from, which they reckon means a potential of hundreds of different variations of the theme.
There will also be lighter lunch options, and baked goods provided by Scott’s existing bakery business at Fundamentum at Piccadilly.
Co-owner Adam said: “I’m so excited to finally be launching Mash Tun! We’ve been looking for a venue for nearly two years and I’m so happy that we’ve finally found the perfect one.
“King Street is a great business hub with fantastic architecture and we can’t wait to get people down to come look at what we’ve created.”
The team are currently on site working on tweaking the existing high-spec interiors into their Mash Tun Manchester vision.
They had been looking for the right site for their concept for the past two years, before coming across Grafene which closed in January, and are now stripping back the venue to a “London gastropub” vibe with home made furnishings.
The venue’s name is a play on the word mash tun – which is a brewhouse vessel used for mixing the ground malt with temperature-controlled water predominantly used for brewing ales (pictured above).
And the team certainly have a pedigree in the beer and bar business – Scott is himself a brewer while Adam created Stage and Radio bar at the former Cuba cafe beside Port Street Beer House in the Northern Quarter.
Mash Tun is set to launch next month on April 19th, with live music every Thursday to Saturday nights.
