Limited run of Mayfield shows paves the way for new arts space The Factory

This November, Manchester International Festival will team up with the notorious party people at the Warehouse Project to put on a limited run of special music events at historic Manchester location Mayfield Depot, bringing top artists including Manchester’s own Bugzy Malone, Bonobo, Gilles Peterson, Fever Ray, Bicep into the city.

All shows will take place at the huge former railway station, which proved itself well suited for purpose after serving as the venue for WHP’s 10 x 10 weekender during MIF 2015.

Curated with input from BBC 6 Music legend Mary Anne Hobbs, the series of events will pave the way for the opening of The Factory: a new major arts space, currently being developed in the city, that will be operated by the team behind MIF.

Manchester’s very own Grime King of the North, Bugzy Malone, will perform two consecutive shows on the 8th and 9th November.

With his first album B. Inspired due out in August, Bugzy is one of the artists responsible for putting Manny on the map in what’s perceived as a London dominated scene and will bring the city a double hit of his trademark, heavyweight sound for the ultimate homecoming.

A number of tickets for these shows will be free to young people in Greater Manchester, so keep your eyes peeled for updates.

Bonobo (aka Simon Green) kicks things off on Saturday 3rd November, bringing his international series of curated events Outlier to Manchester following performances in London and New York.

Bonobo DJs alongside musical purveyor and tastemaker of worldwide sounds Gilles Peterson. Having featured Bonobo on his recent All That Must Be album, George Fitzgerald joins the line-up along with Shanti Celeste, plus support from Rinse FM’s Josey Rebelle – whose Sunday morning show has become a haven of quality electronic music – and Berlin-based Detroit house DJ Palms Traxand.

Karin Dreijer’s Fever Ray are also set to take to the stage on Tuesday 6th November fresh off the back of the release of their critically-acclaimed sophomore album Plunge, in which Karin appears to be more conflicted, more manic, and more in love, too. Notorious for delivering a visually-arresting performance every time, Fever Ray will set your heart racing at this show for sure.

Last but not least, Belfast-bred and London-based DJ production duo Bicep have been confirmed to bring the curtain down on this Special Edition series. From on-trend bloggers to trend-setting DJs, the pair are iconic on the underground dance scene and will front a gripping live show with a promise to feature tracks from their self-titled debut album on Saturday 10th November.

Priority booking for Special Edition tickets opens on Tuesday 10th July 2018, with general sale available from Thursday 12th July 2018.
