Cycle 276km in a day – without leaving Manchester

The weather has affected the sports world in an intense way of late. The We Love MCR 10k performed over the weekend saw three new water stations being erected in order to keep participants lucid in the sweltering sun.

Now, Nuffield Health has been wise enough to organise an event that is not weather-dependent but is a challenge nonetheless.

In a feat of modern technology they have organized the ‘Tour de Nuffield’, a 12-hour cycling event running from 8am until 8pm this Tuesday (10th).

A homage of sorts to the famous Tour de France, the Tour de Nuffield side-steps the need for extensive training in cycling safety, as the bicycle used by participants is entirely stationary.

They’re opening up to the public for the day and encouraging those brave enough to attempt a 276km ride, the length of the Nuffield North West cluster. Multiple challenges will be set throughout the day, with fantastic prizes available to those who can rise to the occasion.

The team are also offering wine and cheese on the day, presumably to those who have achieved their kilometre goals (or valiantly fallen short). Teams are welcome to participate together, or in a tag-in basis.

The lack of physical road restrictions allows for the kind of cycling event that both beginners and veterans can participate in.

In order to join in yourself, you must register your name (or team name) with Nuffield Health. Sponsored cycles are permitted, and any funds raised by Nuffield themselves will go to our sister charity We Love Manchester.

So wiggle into some Lycra and join the greatest cycling event held in a gym that Manchester has ever seen. Mark Cavendish would be proud.

The Tour de Nuffield takes place on Tuesday 10th July at Manchester Printworks Fitness & Wellbeing Gym.
