Exciting changes are on the horizon for travellers passing through Manchester Airport, as the long-anticipated £1.3 billion transformation program nears completion.
The airport has just released a stunning fly-through video, offering a sneak peek into what passengers can expect when the fully revamped Terminal 2 opens later this year.
Manchester Airport Terminal 2
This milestone marks the culmination of a decade-long effort to modernise and enhance the airport experience. The first phase of the project, an extension that doubled the size of Terminal 2, debuted in 2021 and even earned the prestigious UNESCO-backed Prix Versailles award for architecture and design.
Now, as the transformation enters its final stages, travellers can look forward to an array of state-of-the-art amenities, expanded seating areas, and an improved check-in process.
The fly-through video provides a virtual journey through the new terminal, beginning in the spacious check-in hall before moving through an upgraded security area, equipped with cutting-edge scanning technology.
The tour then takes viewers into the international departure lounge, featuring a grand World Duty Free store and the stylish Boutique Mall, where high-end brands like Chanel and Fever-Tree will soon welcome passengers.
Terminal 2’s The Avenue
One of the highlights of the new Terminal 2 experience is ‘The Avenue,’ a high street-style shopping district featuring an exciting lineup of retail and dining options, including a LEGO Store, the Great Northern Market, and Manchester Airport’s first JD Wetherspoon pub.
The innovative dining hub, Great Northern Market, will offer a unique blend of street food-style kitchens set around a central eating space, promising an exceptional culinary experience before takeoff.
Manchester Airport’s Managing Director, Chris Woodroofe
Manchester Airport’s Managing Director, Chris Woodroofe, expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming transformation. “Everyone here at Manchester Airport feels proud to be able to connect the North to the world – and that’s why it’s so exciting for us to finally be able to share this video with our passengers, so they can get a preview of what they’ll be able to experience here later on this year.”
Beyond Terminal 2, the airport’s extensive modernisation efforts continue, including upgrades to the airfield, improved road access, and forthcoming developments in Terminal 3.
Boosting the economy
The investment is set to generate significant economic benefits, with an independent report projecting that Manchester Airport’s contribution to the Northern economy will grow by nearly 80%, reaching £6.3 billion by 2040.
The transformation project has not only improved the passenger experience but also created employment opportunities, with thousands of people contributing to the construction efforts. By 2040, an estimated 16,400 new jobs will be generated, further cementing Manchester Airport’s role as a key driver of economic growth in the region.
As the finishing touches are put in place, anticipation is building for the grand unveiling of Terminal 2. With world-class retail, dining, and travel facilities, Manchester Airport is poised to redefine the passenger journey, making every trip through its doors an experience to remember.
