Stunning new images show how Manchester’s new park could look

Exciting plans for a major urban park at the former Central Retail Park site have been submitted to planners, marking a significant step toward transforming this long-time brownfield site into a green sanctuary in Manchester City Centre.

In collaboration with leading landscape architects Planit-IE, the proposals envision a high-quality, visually stunning park that will connect seamlessly with the nearby Cotton Field Park, linking through to Ancoats and New Islington.

This innovative green space will serve as a crucial bridge between bustling city streets and tranquil, natural surroundings.

Following a public consultation earlier this year, the designs have been refined and are now ready for review, signalling the beginning of a greener, more inviting chapter for Manchester’s city centre.

A Park Designed for All

The proposed park will feature:

• Tiered Gardens and Playful Pathways: Navigating the site’s natural levels, accessible pathways will weave through lush, garden-style areas.
• A Central Lawn and Plaza: Perfect for relaxation, social gatherings, or simply soaking in the greenery.
• Play Areas for Young People: Spaces designed to spark joy and creativity for the city’s youngest residents.

The park will also provide a much-needed green buffer along Great Ancoats Street, creating a peaceful escape while enhancing the surrounding urban landscape.

Supporting Manchester’s Future

This new park is just one part of the exciting redevelopment of the former retail site.

The Government Property Agency (GPA) will lead the creation of a cutting-edge digital campus in the first phase of the project. This campus, home to around 7,000 Civil Service jobs focused on digital skills, will provide invaluable employment opportunities and contribute to Manchester’s ongoing growth.
