A planning application has been submitted to Trafford Council for the redevelopment of the former petrol station near Marks & Spencer at one of the main entrances to the Trafford Centre.
If approved, the project will include a new Starbucks Drive Thru, an ultra-rapid charging hub, a supercharger lounge and car showroom, and a digital advertising screen featuring a vertical “living wall” of plants.
Exciting New Development Plans
Matthew Anderson, Development Director at Pradera Lateral—Trafford Centre’s Asset Managers—commented: “We are thrilled to share our redevelopment plans for the former petrol station site at Trafford Centre. The development will feature a state-of-the-art Starbucks Drive Thru, an ultra-rapid charging hub, a supercharger lounge and car showroom, and an innovative digital advertising screen with a hydroponic vertical living wall.
“In partnership with Starbucks and a leading EV manufacturer, we have designed a forward-thinking project that aligns with Trafford Centre’s vision, enhances biodiversity, and supports sustainable travel.
“With the installation of 47 ultra-rapid chargers (250kW), this development will bring the total number of chargers at Trafford Centre to 65, positioning it as Europe’s largest ultra-rapid charging hub. We are eager to work with Trafford Council and aim to begin construction in early 2025, pending planning approval.”
Commitment to Sustainability
Aidan Williams, Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Climate Change, expressed his support: “The Council is committed to promoting electric vehicle usage and advancing low-carbon transport. While subject to planning approval, this development represents a significant step toward addressing the climate emergency, reinforcing Trafford’s leadership in sustainable transport with what could become Europe’s largest ultra-rapid charging hub.”
Innovative Features
The new Starbucks Drive Thru will be constructed using modern, sustainable methods designed to minimise environmental impact.
In a UK first, the project will also include a purpose-built, two-storey EV car showroom integrated with a supercharger lounge and a 47-bay ultra-rapid charging hub.
Additionally, the development will feature two digital advertising screens with a hydroponic vertical living wall, part of a broader landscaping plan aimed at enhancing local biodiversity.
