Knowing full well that I was no Van Gogh, and was in fact, absolutely useless with a paintbrush in hand – I had to manage my expectations about producing a masterpiece.

Situated upstairs at Vapiano, overlooking the beautiful Corn Exchange, the event was buzzing with anticipation as participants of all ages and backgrounds gathered around their art stations, eagerly waiting to embark on their artistic journey.

The cheerful staff welcomed me warmly, assuring me that no prior painting experience was necessary – it was all about having fun!

Glad to hear it. 

With my easel set up and a refreshing strawberry and ginger mocktail in hand, I was ready to dive right in.

The evenings’ artists introduced themselves and their enthusiasm was contagious.

They assured us that they would guide us step by step, allowing our individual creativity to shine through.

The painting for the evening was the ever-expanding Manchester Skyline, a perfect choice to celebrate the city’s beauty and put our own twist on things.

As the painting session began, I found myself immersed in the process. The artist skillfully provided instructions, offering tips and options to customize our creations along the way. They encouraged us to experiment, reassuring us that there were no mistakes in art, only unique interpretations.

The atmosphere was light-hearted and relaxed, fostering a sense of camaraderie among the participants.

Mainly chuckling at each other’s work, but to be fair, some of the artists were absolutely brilliant, too.

What amazed me the most was how quickly time flew by.

Engrossed in the painting process, I lost track of the outside world and any lingering stress.

The therapeutic effects of painting became evident as my worries melted away with each brushstroke.

As I painted, I struck up conversations with fellow participants, sharing laughs and admiring each other’s unique interpretations of the Manchester Skyline.

The event’s focus on making art accessible to everyone was truly commendable. Regardless of our previous artistic experiences, we were all encouraged to let go of any self-doubt and embrace the journey of self-expression.
