Can your outfit increase your chance of getting a match when it comes to Tinder dating?

Manchester fashion retailer boohooMAN wanted to know, so they conducted a nationwide experiment to discover which items of clothing make the nation swipe right – or not.

They created 16 different Tinder profiles and set the locations to 16 different cities across the UK, each profile featuring a specific item of clothing with models sporting everything from grey joggers to ripped jeans.

The British public were then given seven days to get swiping – and the results are in.

So which items were most and least swiped for?

Coming in first place, the most swiped for item of clothing in Manchester was tradesman trousers, with a whopping 995 matches.

The ‘workmentrousers’ hashtag has racked up over 556,000 TikTok views to date, proving cargo trousers are the way forward to land a Tinder date.

In close second were baggy jeans, receiving an impressive 604 matches – and proving that it’s maybe time to stash the skinny jeans back in your wardrobe.

Cardigans, suits and grey joggers also appeared near the top of the list, with acid wash jeans, flat caps, ripped jeans, checkered shirts and denim jackets making up the rest of the top 10 items of clothing to get those right swipes.

So what about the outfits at the bottom of the list?

One item of clothing with very few matches, perhaps surprisingly, was the humble beanie, with white jeans also proving unpopular.

But vest tops were the least swiped for item, landing only a measly 47 matches in Manchester.

“It’s clear from our research that if you’re not in the gym working out, or laid by the pool in Ibiza, a vest top is not going to help you land a date,” say boohooMAN.

“Maybe try something with sleeves?”

So, we’re looking at you in particular, gym lads – it might be worth putting away your pecs and concealing your guns if you want to get a date – and get yourself a pair of practical cargo pants or comfy baggy jeans instead.
