The Lowry and Archipelago arts collective present SANTA MUST DIE!
This festive season The Lowry in partnership with Archipelago arts collective is presenting SANTA MUST DIE! at Patricroft Conservative Club in Eccles on Tuesday 19th and Wednesday 20th December. This new show is the latest offsite work to be taken to community spaces as part of The Lowry’s commitment to taking theatre to Salford resident’s doorsteps. It follows shows in recent years in Ordsall, Irlam, Swinton, and Clifton.
Written by Rosie MacPherson with music by Sean Ryan and Lyrics by Sean Ryan, Robin Ravi and Laurence Young. Directed by Matt Powell with original direction by Beth Knight and Laurence Young. Santa Must Die! is a raucous gig theatre show for the most difficult time of the year. A story about it being really sh*t when Christmas is all work and no play, and fighting against that which is meant to keep you down.
Nadia and Abed might just be the next big thing. They’ve started the North’s greatest band ‘Santa Must Die!’ and for one night only they’re playing their local. But it’s Christmas eve… and Santa is a bad boss.
Unending queues of demanding, entitled customers, minimum wage, no time off, unpaid overtime, zero hours contract. It’s about time the elves staged a riot.
SANTA MUST DIE! has been made in conversation with people who have experience of working on zero hours contracts at Christmas time.
archipelago is a theatre collective led by Beth Knight, Kirsty Pennycook and Sean Ryan that makes live, daring, and generous work that brings people together. Made with communities, for communities.
SANTA MUST DIE! was originally commissioned by Alphabetti Theatre and supported by Bradford Producing Hub and Arts Council England. 2023 Production supported by Arts Council England, Leeds Playhouse, Red Ladder and The Lowry.
