Beatrix Potter’s most famous character, Peter Rabbit, will be brought to life in an immersive Christmas grotto experience at intu Trafford Centre this Christmas.

Making a change this year, intu Trafford Centre have announced that the grotto will be moving from its old location at Barton Square to a brand new spot outside the Great Hall.

“Beatrix Potter is one of the world’s most beloved authors and Peter Rabbit is a character that brings a smile to the face of both children and adults alike,” said a spokesperson for intu Trafford Centre, one of the greatest retail success stories of the last two decades.

“This year’s grotto is set to delight the senses whilst really immersing visitors in the magical woodland world of Peter Rabbit and friends.”

The grotto will be open from Wednesday 14th November, with classic characters on hand to welcome visitors into Peter Rabbit’s warm and cosy burrow.

A friendly woodland elf will be on hand to introduce you to Peter Rabbit, who will then lead guests on a magical adventure through the winter woodland.

En-route to seek out Father Christmas, children will search Squirrel Nutkin’s trail of Christmas acorns to find his secret Christmas dinner stash and decorate cookies with Jemima Puddle-Duck.

They will also get to wander past Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle’s washing line and be dared to enter Mr. Tod’s lair to sit around the cooking pot.

The magical Peter Rabbit Christmas Grotto experience will end with meeting Father Christmas himself, who will have a beautiful gift waiting for them. Guests will also have the opportunity to pose for a photograph to take home as a keepsake.

The new grotto has been arranged in collaboration with Penguin Ventures (part of Penguin Random House), publishers of the iconic Peter Rabbit™ series.

“We are continually exploring new ways to bring Beatrix Potter’s characters to life and to offer families the chance to enjoy experiences together,” said Thomas Merrington, creative director of Penguin Ventures.

“intu have perfectly achieved this with the Peter Rabbit Christmas Grotto and we cannot wait for fans old and new to journey through this brilliant new Christmas experience at intu Trafford Centre.”

Autism-friendly sessions will also be held at the grotto on 3rd and 10th December between 5pm and 7pm – catering for a much smaller group of visitors in an early morning session to avoid stressful queues.

Autism-friendly elves will be on hand to support families through the experience while the volume of music in the grotto will be reduced and children can choose whether they want a photo taken with Father Christmas or an elf.

intu Trafford Centre has also introduced special signing sessions for those with hearing related special needs this year. To avoid disappointment, families are urged to contact the booking centre directly with details of group size and any special requirements to ensure the best possible experience.

The Peter Rabbit™ Christmas Grotto is open from Wednesday 14th November until Monday 24th December in a new location outside the Great Hall next to the big wheel.
